ESTABLISHMENT OF A SYSTEM FOR THE SAFETY OF THE QUALITY OF DRUGS USED IN THE TREATMENT OF AIDS AND NEGLECTED TROPICAL DISEASES (ISACAM)

This project aims to establish a system for ensuring the quality of medicines used in the treatment of HIV and neglected tropical diseases, co-financed by the Madeira, Azores and Canary Islands Transnational Cooperation Programme (2014-2020).

The ISACAM project (MAC2/1.1a/219) is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg V-A Spain Programme –Portugal MAC 2014-2020.

Expected results

  • Implementation of analytical techniques based on the latest technologies for post-marketing quality control, adjusted to the requirements of pharmacopoeias and international regulatory agencies of the drug.

  • Identification of the status of the quality of medicinal products in the field of study and the quantification of quality substandard medicinal products, unregistered or falsified at the critical points of the medicine chain in Mauritania.

  • Complete the laboratory infrastructure of the Group of New Therapies and Drug Development of IUETSPC in I+I, unique in Macaronesia for this type of studies.

  • Improve infrastructures to support the fight against adulteration and counterfeiting of LNCQM medicines in Mauritania, as recommended by WHO.

  • Train highly qualified personnel in drug analysis and control techniques in the Canary Islands and Mauritania.

  • Improve the public health of the population by preventing their exposure to medicines that could affect the treatment of NTDs and their quality of life.
